Project Description

International Youth Council Sri Lanka Chapter joined together with New Stars FC, Puttalam Sri Lanka as a Strategic Partner for the NSFC Football For Hope program.

The first edition of this program's training was conducted at the Merci Institute Sri Lanka, Puttalam on the 12th of November 2017.

Strategic Goals:

Provide support to children and youth whose physical, mental health and well-being are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic through play and learning activities.
Provide children access to safe play and learning spaces within the communities.
Develop motivation of children and youth to stay in school and complete their studies in high school through Pay, Believe, and Achieve approach.
Increase participation of boys and girls from the region in Football and Futsal.

Lack exposure to modern football and field learning sessions.
Limited access to physical and social development programs which can provide valuable skills, teamwork, and a sense of belonging, offering a brighter future for these children.

Solutions

Solutions to increase empowerment and impact through modern play and learning sessions associated with Professional local football club.
Adoption of national gender policies and procedures, to ensure that women are adequately represented in all fields.

Benefits and Impact 

100% of the respondents also agreed that the play and learning sessions helped them stay physically active, helped them establish good communication skills with schoolmates, teachers, friends and families using online platforms.
The sessions also helped them stay motivated to learn and deal with the stress brought about by the pandemic and the educational set-up which in turn helped them maintain a good mental health.
