Professional Training on Volunteer Management: From Recruitment to Retention
01 November 2026 | Colombo, Sri Lanka

Effective volunteer management is essential to building resilient communities and sustaining humanitarian action. Beyond recruitment, it requires a commitment to trust, inclusion, wellbeing, and meaningful engagement throughout the volunteer journey.

A one-day professional training titled “From Recruitment to Retention: Building a Culture of Trust, Care & Belonging” will explore practical approaches to strengthening volunteer engagement and developing more inclusive, supportive, and sustainable volunteer programmes.

Led by Dr Amjad Mohamed-Saleem, Assistant Professor of Humanitarian Studies at Zakat Foundation Institute, the training will examine key aspects of volunteer management, including motivation, recruitment, role clarity, communication, constructive feedback, retention, and recognition.

The programme will also address volunteer safeguarding, diversity and inclusion, wellbeing, burnout prevention, and the management of challenging situations, with particular attention to working effectively with young people and diverse volunteer communities.

Through interactive exercises, case studies, guided reflection, and real-life scenarios, participants will gain practical insights and tools to strengthen their volunteer management practices and foster organizational cultures in which volunteers feel valued, supported, and empowered to contribute.
